Checkout, whether it be mobile wallets or so-called one-click, has received an awful lot of press and attention lately.

So what does the future hold in terms of the payments space?

BANKNOTES chatted with Mason Lin, founder of checkout platform Pockyt; and Osayame Gaius, founder and CEO of Parrot about the future of the payments space and what trends we may see making their way from Asia, Africa and Europe to North America.

Takeaways from the session include:

  • Mobile and alternative payment options need to do more than simply facilitate transactions, they have to help foster interactions with the customer base;
  • Consumers want to think of themselves first and not be beholden to a specific checkout platform or option;
  • Businesses should stop assuming consumers will go back to their owned .com websites to complete the checkout experience;
  • SMS, QR code and non-credit card options for checkout are on the rise.
