As a content creator, having a blog can be extremely beneficial. Not only does it establish your brand as a professional, but it’s a space created and managed by you that no one can take away. What if Instagram or Youtube were shut down tomorrow? Does your content have a home outside of those channels?
If not, here are some tips to tricks to starting and maintaining a blog:

Pick a Platform
Do your research! Become familiar with the various platforms and what they have to offer. Compare features and price points to find the platform that is right for you. Once you’ve decided on a platform, you’ll also want to lock in a custom domain name that is consistent with the rest of your channels.
Categories + Design
Once you’ve chosen a platform and purchased your domain name, it’s time to incorporate a visual theme and think about the specific categories you want to write about.
Be sure to include an “About” page that describes who you are as a creator and what your blog is about. Don’t forget a “Contact” page as well! You want brands and potential collaborators to be able to contact you easily. Also consider including a “Disclaimer” page for legal reason. (I’ve personally done a lot of research on disclaimers, so feel free to copy mine if you’d like.)
Being a mama is one of the hardest jobs in the world, and keeping my kids safe is my number one priority. It is so important to be educated and knowledgeable about what to do in a situation if you smell natural gas. One preventative measure to avoid a natural gas leak is through annual maintenance! There's nothing more reassuring than knowing you and your loved ones are safe. Check out the link in my bio for my blog post! @fortisbc #GasSafety #RottenEggs #sponsored
Create a Content Calendar
Once you’ve set up your site, it’s time to start writing! However, before you start, carefully consider how many times a week you plan on posting and then write a schedule based on your decision. Always try to be consistent when posting to your blog so your readers can expect when to hear from you!
There are several online programs that can help you organize your posting schedule, or you can opt to handwrite it in a physical planner if that’s easier.
Promote Your Blog on Social Media
No matter how great your SEO skills are, it’ll be hard to get your blog out there without some kind of social media promotion. Share your new blog posts on all of your social channels to get as much buzz as possible. I highly recommend using the “Swipe Up” feature on Instagram stories if you have access to it. It also helps to start a mailing list once you’ve established a loyal following.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit some amazing places around the world. Especially when I’m out of my home country, it’s nice to know that my CIBC Aventura Card comes with 24/7 emergency travel support. It’s a small perk that gives big peace of mind.
