This Week’s Featured Influencer is Lifestyle Blogger Vanessa Bourque @vbourque!
Introducing Vanessa – a Canadian fashion and lifestyle blogger who dodged this year’s winter weather by moving to sunny Sydney, Australia. She recently took over our Instagram page to share her favourite places in her new neighbourhood. Now we’re catching up with her again to find out what inspired her decision to drop everything and make the big move!
Where are you from?
I am from the most beautiful city in the world – Montréal!
How did you grow up?
I grew up as an only child with my single mom in a small town on the North Shore of Montreal. Growing up I really was into sports, dance and dramatic art. I had lots of passions growing up. I definitely was a kid with lots of energy and in need of a lot of attention, haha.
What were you doing before you started blogging?
I started publishing on Instagram back in 2012 while I was travelling in South East Asia for 3 months. So I guess before that I was just a regular fashion-marketing student that was using this app to edit my travel pics to show them to my friends!
When and why did you start your blog?
Lescapricieuses.com was launched in March 2014 after my friend Tania and I both decided to put our mutual passions for writing, beauty and fashion all together. All we wanted to do was learn more about the blogging world and really have a chance to share our passion.
What cool opportunities has blogging given you?
The best thing about blogging in Montreal is clearly the new friendships you’re able to build with all those people that share the same passion as you. Being a blogger really gave me the opportunity to meet so many generous/smart/talented and funny people that I can call friends now. I always love attending events and being around other young and creative people in my generation that inspire me so much on a daily basis. Being a part of that crowd makes me feel like I am a part of something big and I love it!
What inspired you to create?
Fashion, obviously, but while I’m away it’s hard not to be inspired by the beauty of the ocean.
Why did you decide to move to Sydney?
Basically to challenge myself. I wanted to improve my English and to get out of my comfort zone while I am still young. Sydney seemed like the perfect balance between the city and the beach lifestyle.
How is life in Australia compared to Montreal?
It’s honestly pretty similar… instead you get to spend your weekend afternoons at the beach instead of Laurier’s Park :P.
What are some of your favourite places in the world?
I must admit that I surprisingly fell deeply in love with Nicaragua last summer! I don’t know if it’s because I was travelling for the first time with my best friend or just because the scenery is just absolutely insane but if I had the chance to visit this country again I would pack my backpack and be ready to go tomorrow. But my ultimate favourite place in the world is probably Gili Trawangan in Indonesia. The sunsets are simply mind-blowing (#Bucketlist).
What has travelling taught you?
Travelling taught me to “go with the flow” and to let go of things you have no control over.
What are you dreams/goals?
Ultimately to find a job that I am really passionate about so I’ll never feel like working a single day in my life again.
